OT:Doug read my reply to Bill. I already agree with you that their are those who use Religion to scam people, but I disagree that you can lump everyone into one group.

True Christians mutually agree about following scriptures which have evidence to back them up going back thousands of years (Dead Sea Scrolls, pieces of Noah's Ark,etc.)

There is a great danger if you are following another's person interpretation of Scripture if you aren't doing the research yourself.

I can sum up the TWO rules that Jesus gave that eclipse all other laws.

1. Love the Lord you God with all your might.
2. Love your neighbor as yourself.

All the laws and Prophets hang on these two commandments.

If you follow these, you don't kill, steal, rape, etc etc.

My belief is anyone not teaching Love and Truth from the New Testament, must not be True Christian.

Thankyou for your peaceful Discussion.

Milo

OT -

Once you surrender rational thought, and pledge blind faith to follow a particular myth, you can be
coerced into doing great evils by those in power within the particular cult.

Surrendering rational thought is not necessary in order to
agree with the beliefs of a particular religion and respect
and follow its tenants.
With the possible exception of certain fundimenatalistic
Islamic countries or people who join small cults and
isolate themselves completely from society at large,
organized religion has little ability to coerce individuals. IT
has the ability to influence them and some of the influence
you might consider negative, but for all of its
influence organized religion does not have great power that
it can directly apply to control and coerce.
Religious ideas can have a strong effect on people. This
effect can be positive or negative. When a religion is
organized this positive or negative effect will impact on a
greater number or people. Any idea that strongly
effects and inspires a great number or people will almost
invariably have some negative consequences and will
also be co-opted by some to server their own selfish ends.
These consequences do not automatically mean that the
specific religious ideas or organization is an evil thing. The
fact that people use religious ideas and organizations
for selfish ends does not mean that organized religions are a sham.
