Ray:

SBC has never represented to my knowledge that VDSL is "available," let alone officially acknowledged it part of its Pronto strategy. Notwithstanding, I recall listening in on a conference call in and around the time Project Pronto released about VDSL deployment by year end 2000. I have not heard anything about VDSL from SBC since. Nevertheless, it is something that SBC is studying, and likely experimenting with.

I would not rely solely upon what I can garner from their website as the sole universe of what SBC is doing, or not doing. For some reason you seem bent on challenging the conclusion that SBC is eyeing VDSL. We can only speculate at this time, but recall, the original intent of DSL technology, back to the Pacific Telesis days, was to deliver video programming over twisted copper pair. Today, the most aggressive telcos are in competition with the more aggressive MSOs for the delivering of bundled services, which include both broadcast video as well as voice and data communications. To think that the telcos are not interested in VDSL technology given present investment in enhanced DSL technology is an conclusion that I wouldn't want to put my investment dollar on.
