i'm sure that there are a variety of things that we could look at that might be impacting your desktop's sluggish performance. i like to focus on those items of a maintenance nature, before i go off on tangents trying to ID more exotic problems.

so tell me, what sort of system maintenance have you been performing on your desktop? do you clear cache and temp files? defrag regularly? brush after every meal (just tossed that one in to see who is still reading)? run scan disk? do you have any utility programs like ones offered by norton or mcafee installed on your machine? what os are you running? w95 or w98? what have you tried to improve performance? and is this poorer desktop performance only evident during your "Command and conquer Tiberian Sun" adventures?

re your good question, "Could it be a graphic card causing one to run slow"... my input would be that a better card in the laptop may be boosting the performance.
