Terrence, I know you can think your way out of a paper bag. If a big objection to the income tax is the intrusiveness, and the way in which due process norms are violated when auditing, then it is a big improvement to simplify and eliminate the need to audit, except when there is a question of hiding income. No one has an inalienable right to wealth and property, in any event, so long as one concedes the need for limited government, and the consequent need to finance it. Taxes are always coercive.

Anyway, distinctions are important. Social democrats are not Stalinists, and those who affirm an income tax, whether or not mistaken, are not, by that one policy, social democrats..........
