Salaries are not automatically adjusted, no. However, there is often a "cost of living" or "term of service" increase that ensures that people do not fall too far behind, and, generally, salaries are set competitively, and therefore must reflect the market value of the laborer. Finally, it is not unusual for there to be base salary assessments to bring salaries better into line with current market conditions, by recalculating on the adjusted base. I made the qualification that rate changes must be gradual, otherwise, it may be difficult to make the necessary adjustments, and someone might suffer.........
