Nor do we require secularists to check their opposition to God at the door.

I have never heard of a school which actively taught atheism, and this would be as inappropriate, IMO, as teaching religion. There is no need to do either. I think it perfectly reasonable to say that since this is a divisive and contentious issue, and nobody really knows what's true in any event, we will leave it in the home where it belongs.

Since values cannot be left at home, the values taught in schools should be those held by the society. These will be influenced by religion to the extent that the society is influenced by religion. There is no need to introduce religion to the school to support these values.

Of course there will be no absolute consensus on what the values of the society are. These values are continuously changing; some will accept those changes faster than others, and there will be disagreement about which particular value-set will be reflected in schools. As long as all parties approach these disagreements with good will, mutual respect, and willingness to compromise, solutions will present themselves. If people approach the disagreements with the idea that they and only they know what is right for everyone, there will be trouble.

As far as I know secularists do not object to God- who may or may not exist- they object to what people in the name of God wish to DO. There is quite a big difference.
