Paul,

No - I think Willamette will have serious launch problems - in fact - aren't you the guy who predicted this ?

I did predict this, nevertheless the presence of Willy dampens investor enthusiasm about AMD.

"Compaq is building a chipset called the F8 that will enable 8-CPU Foster servers. "We're really excited about Foster," Santeler said. The chip comes with 10 parallel memory controllers to ensure that the CPUs can communicate with memory fast enough, he said. "

"F8" - A Catchy name for Compaq's chip set - any idea what the "F" stands for?

I think the "F" stands for "Faster than Itanium".

BTW: Back in the days when Compaq and Intel were best buddies, I worked for that guy and did some performance analysis which ultimately determined the bus speed for the first Pentium processor.

Another interesting coincidence is that I used to babysit the guy who wrote the article you referenced.
