I am no accountant nor am I tax expert but I do not believe that that is a valid approach.
"Good Will" is not a difference between Nexgen BV and the price paid but rather the difference between the price and fair value that is defined by present value of cash flows and assets alone. The BV of an investment is the amount paid by definition or at least it works like that with bonds. I think AMD needs to sell Nexgen and k6/k7 designs together with it in order to claim any gain or loss.
