A day or two ago I actually looked up Ms. Ciesla's site, by the way, inspired by your comments. At first it seemed funny: all that stuff about everything being well written, then you read her stuff, and... well, it seems incongruous, to be polite about it. Then I read the introduction to her personal archive, and I could feel nothing but pity for the woman. I took myself very nearly as seriously as that at her age, and I shudder to think of the reckoning that awaits her.

I'm glad there was no Internet when I was 26. I would have made a perfect ass of myself.

My husband heard something surprising on the car radio a while back, so I can cite no source, but maybe someone here can. Maybe it's been talked about here.

Have others heard that at one point the Miami relatives left Elian to be babysat for by a guy who had served prison time for killing his own child?

res-You seem to have completely bought into a scenario, moved the pieces the way you want them to fit, and said- there! THAT's the truth! ANd you just don't HAVE the truth- none of us does and probably never will.

No I have not. I am simply giving you my most plausible scenario. And you're rejecting it and giving me yours. The "truth" may never be known one way or another for years.

A doctor specifically sent by the Cuban government to attend to Elian was stopped and found with drugs which (according to reports) no reputable american doctor would carry with him or give to a seven year old.

Plausible explanations...

1. The drugs were intended for Elian.
2. He always carries them with him.
3. They were intended for someone else.

I am sure they're more possible explanations. However, number one seems like the most plausible scenario to me. I may be in NewsMax fantasyland or I may not. But are you naive enough to believe Fidel Castro would not give drugs to Elian?

What signs of emotional deterioraton? And how were you able to come to that definite conclusion?
