Jim...dare I ask when the last time you backed up/archived your hard drive was???

A CD burner is under $200 from PC Warehouse. Blank CD's are less than $1.00 apiece. You don't have to back up all your programs. JUST YOUR DATA.

That's enough scolding from me. Hope this lesson is recoverable at some point for you.
