Coluccio Read Replies (2) | Respond to of 12823 Jim, the following is not directed at the specific case at hand, rather, it is my general view of the expectations by participants on this and other generic technology threads. These include, LMT, VoIP, NFCTF, Optical Techs, Internet2, among others. I suppose the crux of the matter is that we discuss technologies here in a generic way. Discussion favoring or bashing the stock play value of any company has no place. Even in those cases where someone has a favored play (lml:AFCI::MikeW:ANTC<?>), the "regulars" have learned the thread-cultured rule -- and don't kid yourself, every thread worth anything has its own culture -- to present their questions about the plays they are interested in "from a distance," while at least attempting to maintain the perspective of objectivity. In this way the LM Tech in question is placed under a microscope for open discussion for the primary purpose of examining its merit. The title page of this thread spells these principles out rather clearly. Lurking for some period of time would also clue someone to these things. Occasionally, we find that the principals (owners sometimes, and sometimes high ranking officers) of a given company or sector which has come under scrutiny here will appear on these threads (LMT and NFCTF), which could be cause for concern. How could they possibly be unbiased? But surprisingly, some of them actually do a good job of presenting information in a generic way, or they don't present it at all, prudently recusing themselves in silence from being violative to the established ways of the thread. We have one such situation now on the new Coluccio thread, where a recent poster is the head of marketing for a company whose field has been the topic of a great deal of speculation, and in some cases, derision and fun-poking by others (guilty as charged, but only kidding, most often). In this case he appears to be keeping his posts straight and on topic without having to resort to the use of tincture of hypodine. The general hope here is that objective discussion, and arguments based on characteristics other than personal financial vesting, continues to prevail. FAC
