<which non-producer you suddenly have confidence in to execute in place of PALM? >

I never underestimate the ultimate purveyors of crap, msft, to grow mkt share. This MIGHT become beta-vhs appl-mac all over again...who knows. Personally I doubt it, but I'll fork over some paper profits to wait and see.

<the most likely contenders for share are turning out to be companies who have license agreements with PALM to use their os>

No doubt. Believe me, it's precisely what I consider on the plus side for holding palm, but imo, I think palm has been slow to bring new features in smaller form factors to mkt. Where's my palm model with 320*240 color, built in modem, and voice recorder all in the titanium palm V form factor!!!

I need to feel more like msft is playing catch up to palm, not the other way around(I'm certain most will disagree with this). I know, I know, palm will only release stuff when it works, but imo the tables could turn. Joe public will buy crap from msft if it gets there first.

Another concern for me is the lack of a qwerty kybd. I saw a motorola vp on the tube a few days ago plugging a qwerty pda. I want one. I still like my old casio organizer for that reason. I can type on those tiny keys much faster than I can poke at a touch screen or write in palms alphabet.

Now if the wind would just shift to the west I could be windsurfing :)

mr.mark,

Good post. Very true. I might also add one other thing ...

Forgive me, for I do not remember the projections for total hand-held growth over the next 5 years, but I would gladly accept a decline in market share from say 70% to 60%, if the total market for hand-helds increased tenfold!

For example, wouldn't 60% of 10 billion units be better than 70% of 5 billion units?

kcmike

ps. David, I also anxiously await your next dissertation!
