To: KevRupert who wrote (44002 ) 7/16/2000 7:08:45 PM From: mr.mark Respond to of 45548 yes, i read that in the chronicle, advalorem. and you know what stood out to me, immediately? right in the very first sentence..."but that's not stopping dozens of eBay users" ooooohh... 24, 36? what numbers! <g3> besides, it's becoming almost a well-known fact that ebay bidders will pay more for an item than they might be able to pay elsewhere. i know a local bookstore owner who sells armloads of paperbacks (and cd's too) on ebay for more than he can sell them for in house. but i don't mean to degrade the palm competition. the other word that jumped out at me in that henry norr piece was overwhelming ..."We're seeing just overwhelming demand for the product," said Nora Hahn, spokeswoman for Compaq" and "we're so overwhelmed with demand that it's going to be a while before we catch up" . this can be taken in a negative light as well as the intended positive, imo. in addition, let's see how compaq ipaq deals with component shortages, i.e, memory chips and lcd's. i fail to see where a newcomer (ipaq) has as good an advantage at part procurement as has palm. (i should add that with the intel connection, the chip issue may not be as great.) and then there's the topic of developers... let's have henry norr write an article about how many developers are lining up behind ipaq to build software and hardware add-ons. i say ipaq has a long way to go. btw, the seiko smart pad i posted about last week ( #reply-14034683 ) is shown in today's staple's newspaper ad, selling for $198.98. i am still as impressed with this palm accessory as i have been with any of the others. but i may not know them all! <g> btw2, i like norr's tech columns. good to see you enjoying them as well... :) mark
