Kind of like ORCL and sebl in crm space.

I think you may be underestimating INTC. They have a knack for being the low-cost provider of semi's. They could do that with CDMA ASIC's, too.

Comparing this situation to ORCL and SEBL doesn't work for me. ORCL has done great as the enterprise RDBMS Gorilla. Their record as an application provider is not so sterling simply because writing application software requires expertise very different than writing an RDBMS platform. Supporting and implementing apps is also quite different.

Designing and manufacturing an ASIC is very much like designing and manufacturing a CPU or other chip sets. Does not INTC have extensive CDMA ASIC experience already? Aren't they already making ASICs for QCOM? (Serious question.)
