The leadership will probably change after ipo.

Check out ATHM's presentation.

Excite@chello is now the second largest BB company, next to excite@home, in terms of cable footprint (30+ million homes passed).

How would you have done the deal in order to secure a true presence and yet gotten it done? Go head to head and screw UPC?

You don't do deals just to do deals. If a deal isn't advantageous, you don't do it. ATHM already has a presence. Have you forgotten that?

There are things in the deal I would prefer different, not the least of which is 50/50-boondoggle socialist management that appears to have been hatched,

At least its consistent with the ATHM model. There's no one in charge but a committee. Committees are the highest form of failure yet developed.

but, realistically, what do you think they could have achieved in Europe?

Everything. They could have built incrementally on existing properties by adding smaller systems which wouldn't have invited regulatory interference. They could use stock to buy the weaker smaller sisters who could use the expertise. Instead the company buys the widely touted rush to grab share theory. This puts off profitability indefinitely, but more importantly dilutes the independence of individual action and makes you hostage to the mediocrity of the group of committees. Your in education. Tell me what you think of committees.

Do you know for a fact that the way the deal is structured ATHM can be spat out in a few years after being milked for all they are worth to UPC?

Of course not. When you deal from weakness though you make concessions that increase the probability that you can be and will elect to be spat out later when you're dyin' for cash flow.

Do you see any positives from this as it now stands with 'limited' facts that have trickled out.

It's a neutral development. Just another paper shuffle that doesn't add value. None of the clowns either on Yahoo or here have advanced any suggestion about added value. They think value comes from position, presence, and paper shuffling. Please tell me what this deal does for ATHM? Before you make the fool claims like others about subs, think about it, and think about how is it possible to deliver your added value ideas when the controllers won't let you do that because they have a "better" way. Won't happen? Well, please tell me what has constrained ATHM for the last 3 years but exactly the same thing residing in the board.

I get the feeling that with rule by committee as it has been, improved with T's hand but still lacking a dynamic clear leadership of ONE, deals like this may be the best we will see.

Then you should sell because this stock will be in a base indefinitely.

What’s new about that?

Nothing, and this is a surprisingly bearish development. They had a chance to do something constructive and they have managed to convert a victory into a defeat. Nothing new about that indeed. NConsider what Eric noted: Excite Chello. That's BS and there's no way that Att can let that slide. What were all these claims about "brand"? So how good is it to change your brand? Excide Cheato is a new competing entity which will end up invading the US and taking on the old dying @Home. They'll do it by partnering with AOL!
