Paging/two-way wireless messaging/VOIP/ISP services The company holds an interest in a paging joint venture (Contour) that operates paging systems in 13 major cities located throughout Shandong province. It has in excess of 400,000 subscribers and is the second largest paging network in the province. Earlier this year, Contour reached an agreement to secure the necessary licences to provide two-way wireless messaging, voice-over Internet protocol (VOIP) and Internet access services. This partnership will allow Contour to expand its paging business to include two-way wireless messaging and to broaden its revenue base by diversifying into VOIP for telephone long-distance calling via the Internet and ISP services. The plans are to rollout the first two-way wireless messaging system in Jinan, capital city of Shandong province, this fall. Discussions with two equipment suppliers are entering the final stages and a decision will be made between California-based GWCom and Swedish Ericsson's Mobitex system. The company expects to launch the ISP and VOIP services following the deployment of the two-way wireless messaging system. Internet data centre The company has signed a Memorandum to establish a joint venture to develop and operate Internet data centres (IDCs) in the People's Republic of China. In June, the company, in co-operation with Sun Microsystems, completed a successful presentation of the proposed IDC project to the Chinese partner, a major Internet and communications company in China. Management is establishing facilities in Beijing to co-ordinate efforts with Sun and the Chinese partner to finalize the plans for the facilities, equipment costing, schedulling and the engineering specifications required for the construction of the IDC. A preliminary marketing plan and terms of the proposed joint venture agreement were forwarded last week to the Chinese partner for review. Sun has submitted an initial development plan and the second phase report including the cost analysis of the proposed IDC will be completed at the end of this week. Management will be travelling to China/Hong Kong next week to discuss further planning with Sun and the Chinese partner and to finalize a contract with Sun to provide its technical expertise and Internet technology platform for the IDC project. Fibre optic network/B2B e-commerce solution Management is currently negotiating potential partnerships with two strategic entities to further enhance the company's business opportunities in China. One party is a public company that owns a fibre optic network running through some of the most economically developed regions including the province of Guangzhou in Southern China. The other party is a U.S. company that has developed a B2B e-commerce solution featuring the latest state-of-the-art, fully functional three-dimensional imaging product capabilities based on Oracle's Internet solutions platform. This software company's senior management includes executives that were previously with major companies such as Intel and Oracle and it has recently set up an Hong Kong office to pursue market opportunities for its software in China. Financing plans for projects The company has recently completed its business plan and will be in discussions with major financial institutions in Canada, United States and Hong Kong regarding a financing for the company's projects. The fibre optics company and the software company have expressed an interest in taking an equity position in Concept Wireless Inc. Management will be meeting both parties in Hong Kong to hold further discussions.
