CEU - CONCEPT INDUSTRIES INC have been in China growing their paging business since 1994. The growth in paging appears be taking off. ************************************************************ The Company has two paging joint ventures in Shandong Province with a population of 86 million people. One of them is the second largest paging network in that province which has 300,000 subscribers. Revenue in the first half of 1999 from the joint venture is US$5 million with US$1 million profit. Based on the present growth rates, total subscribers will exceed 500,000 and projected gross revenue of US$25 million dollars by the end of 2000. ************************************************************ The most recent venture for the company into China's internet industry could prove to be the most exciting aspect of this small company. They obviously have some very strong connections in China. ************************************************************ Chinese telecom provider plans Net centers by Stephen Lawson, IDG News Service\Hong Kong Bureau December 23, 1999 Mainland China-based Beijing Jitong Telecommunication is gearing up to provide the infrastructure for e-commerce in China, announcing this week a deal with a Canadian firm to build Internet data centers. The pact with Concept Industries is aimed at developing facilities for high-speed Internet links as well as server hosting. The companies said they hope to provide e-commerce server hosting that meets Western standards, to serve Western companies as they enter an opening market. The Internet centers also would host dial-up, leased line, and microwave Internet access. Industry observers said earlier this month that a limited infrastructure is among the major barriers to developing the e-commerce market in the mainland. The companies announced they signed a Memorandum of Understanding for creation of a joint venture and would meet in January to work out further details. Beijing Jitong Telecommunication is a subsidiary of state-owned Jitong Communications. Concept Industries, which has its roots in the paging business, is poised to take advantage of an expected opening of China's telecommunications and Internet markets following agreements on the country's entry into the World Trade Organization. Last month, Concept entered into a paging joint venture with the Shandong provincial government that it said was made possible by expected legalization of foreign ownership in telecommunications companies in China. Beijing Jitong Telecommunication is based in Beijing and can be reached on the Internet at jitong.com. Concept Industries can be found on the Web at concept-industries.com. ************************************************************ Could be a big winner in the not to distant future. They are apparently in talks with Exodus and Digital Island to participate in the developement of these IDC's (Exodus market cap US$14 billion, Digital Island US$4 billion). John | ||||||||||||
