So Michael Cummings is just your alias and you are really CHarles Paul Freund!? He DOES sound like you on almost every issue! There are some interesting articles at that site. I found a fantastic one by Dr. Thomas Szasz (I am glad I'm typing and not speaking that name) about the myth of mental illness and what he calls the "creeping therapeutic state" in the world today. It certainly applies to the way we fling around the word "crazy" here at SI and are reduced to name-calling and obscenities rather than rational discussion of the disagreements. Mental illness is a myth whose function is to disguise and thus render more palatable the bitter pill of moral conflicts in human relations.

The force sent to the home was not a bunch of social workers with clipboards and lollypops. The whole purpose of the raid was to collect Elian as quickly and with least amount of resistance. Of course they were scary looking, the better to keep the people in the house from making some foolish attempt at resistance. I suppose you think they should have sent in Jimmy Carter to talk them out. TP
