StockHawk,

I forgot to mention that a critical aspect of an LCD display might be the width of the angle (sorry, I can't think of the correct term) that the light is emitted. If you and your wife look at the monitor at the same time at least one of you will not be looking straight at it. The wider the angle, the more off-center you can view it without having the color and hue change.

re: Monitors. Well, you like the LCD and others just praised the latest tubes. So I'm still confused. Perhaps a few more will chime in.

>>I'm amazed that you can now buy monitors for the prices you mentioned. In February I bought Samsung's SyncMaster 700TFT for $2500...I'm really jealous of those prices.<<

Mike, look at it this way. In February you could have sold 18 shares of QCOM to raise $2500. I'll likely have to sell 23 shares to raise $1500 now. Plus you have enjoyed the monitor for five months while I've grown bleary-eyed. So who's jealous of who?

Mike,

. I instantly noticed that my eyes stopped itching and they no longer feel fatigued even after a really long stint in front of the screen. (Joel will probably tell us that something else caused the itching, but for whatever reason it stopped happening when I bought the LCD display. :)

Not at all - CRTs often build up electric charge on the front surface. This causes an electric field between the CRT and your face which attracts particles of dust, pollen etc not only to the CRT face but also to your eyes.

The better tubes have a transparent conductive shield to minimise this effect.
