random disturbing element It's very hard to get to advanced topics (like memes) when the basics are not understood. Randomness is but one element of evolution, more important is the digital information storage system (DNA), and the selection process. Variation is more chaotic than random, the next generation is different, but on the same theme as the current one. It's more mix and match of characteristics than random change. Purely random changes enter the genome at a very low rate. The selection process is what leads to increased complexity and utility. TP Death is as important a part of the process as life or reproduction, a darkly humerous way this is said is that some organisms have to take out the trash so the others can prosper. At the advanced meme level this is one of the reasons I think huge family fortunes and large corporations also have to "die" at some point to enable a new generation of ideas with increased benefit.
