Ref <I was under the impression that Intel's operating earnings weren't looking so good recently. Is this the case >

No !!!

Intels Operating earnings are continuing to grow, although they are not growing at the rate of 40% rate, which they were doing five years ago. The overall earnings have been growing more rapidly, because of huge investment income.

Looking at the most recent 3 quarters: Q4 1999 and Q1 2000 showed a small decline on YTY operating income, and Q2 2000 showed a small increase.

Looking at the long term: In Q1 1997, INTC posted operating income of $2.8 billion. In Q2 2000, INTC posted operating income of $2.4 billion. It looks like Intel is growing in the wrong direction. -g-

Bilow:

Your impression is accurate. (g)

Incidentally, have you noted the recent commentary on INTC's Rambus benchmark test results? As both you and I have maintained for some time, the supposed RMBS performance benefits are not easily discerned. (g)

I love it that it is Uncle Intel's own benchmark test results that suggest there is no performance advantage.

Best, Earlie
