Hi Scumbria; Is ALi working on an RDRAM chipset for AMD's K7?

M1657 Memory: SDRAM/D-RDRAM

This is a great site for Chipset data. All the DDR chipsets are listed there.

P.S. Re RDRAM cost adder... Intel tried (without success) to get the memory makers to agree to a 50% higher price. One can only imagine that it will be some time before Samsung gets its cost adder down to the 5% they are hoping for.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the RIMM/DIMM ratio as low as 1.50 by the end of the year, but I would be surprised to see anything lower. This amount of money is far in excess of any royalty problems that could befall DDR.

Scumbria,

This is true, but as a design manager, am I going to take the risk...

I didn't say that. I simply said that the trend is our friend. As the price gets closer to parity, then more design managers will consider it. Each case will have to evaluate the use of RDRAM separately. Always has been, always will be.

But you can't deny that RDRAM will be included in more designs if the price gets closer to parity than if it stays at $800 for 128M. And the trend says we're getting there.

Dave

will i design a device and take the risk that the price will be in line when it comes to market.rmbs did exactly that! that is the nature of all business. RISK. if you can't stand it, get a job that pays you sh*t and gives you a false sense of security. gee scum, you are streching now. rocky@whydoireplytoidiots.com
