But you can't deny that RDRAM will be included in more designs if the price gets closer to parity than if it stays at $800 for 128M. And the trend says we're getting there.

The hurdle for DRDRAM is much bigger than you think. It is typical to design a SDR/DDR SDRAM memory controller, which covers the design in the eventuality that DDR remains too expensive to be viable. The option to use cheap SDRAM is always available to the customer.

In contrast, once you start down the DRDRAM path, there is no opportunity for recovery. If DRDRAM remains expensive, the product is dead (Timna.) Intel feels that they can get away with using DRDRAM for PIV, because they can hide the cost in the high price of PIV systems.

I'm inclined to believe Carl, that DRDRAM is not going into very many new designs.
