And another thing: Everybody spends all this time talking about truck rolls and subs. At this point the truck rolls are not what is holding up the subs, at least not from my side of the country. They might be an issue in San Jose, but then PacBell might be an even bigger issue there. I don't believe for a minute that it was all the modem shortage. What is holding up the subs is that the people who really really want the service still don't have a node close by (I've put about a dozen of them on a waiting list myself) and some of those that have a node close by are still on the fence as to why they need to spend forty bucks a month for the Internet. Crazy as it might seem to us, some people would rather spend their money on digital TV and 140 stations. We still haven't signed up all the early adopters because they are still rolling out the upgrades and the early adopters haven't yet convinced the average joes that this is something they just have to have. I've done my part there. There's one more thing, the average joes tend to all decide at once that they have to have something. The reason Bell feels confident in those subs coming on board is because he is counting on this kicking in before Christmas. This is exactly when the truck rolls and self install will become an issue.
