Bell noted that the cable modem shortage due to a factory fire resulted in about a 50K explicit shortfall in subs. He believed that there was an further unquantified impact because the cable co. limited marketing in view of the modem shortfall. Whether you believe this or not is up to you.

I think given penetration rates in older more established markets vs penetration overall that demand is ok.

At this point the truck rolls are not what is holding up the subs, at least not from my side of the
country.

That is the single biggest fear. What if people dont really want broadband? Of course they will eventually- but how long will it take to be widely accepted everyday stuff?

The shares of Milpitas, Calif.-based Com21 fell 14-11/64 to 19-7/8 on the Nasdaq market, where it was the biggest percentage loser.

Merrill Lynch said it was concerned about the company's quarterly results and outlook, citing light cable modem shipments and lower proprietary sales.

Heres the shocker:

I sold every single share of ATHM I own at the open today and went short on 3/4 of the position. I would have gone short 100% but the stock collapsed too fast.

I realized that I sit here every day watching every trade of ATHM. I also realized that all the good news is out and nobody cares. This means that the odds of ATHM taking off without me are extremely small. In the meantime I intend to take advantage of the single best short opportunity I can find anywhere.

I've promised myself that all the cash from the sale plus any profits from the short will go into buying ATHM again when the time is right. Depending on how far it drops I could end up with a lot more shares.

What a relief to be up almost 2 points today from where I would have been.
