Why would intervening to give early man a soul be pointless?
It's the manipulation by nudge and wink that I find pointless. It would seem that God could just plug a soul in if he has the ability to check and correct the results of our mating habits. More so it is unnecessary. All the characteristics of people and other creatures are attainable without a nudge or wink.
