I think we have it covered.

When I had my service installed, I assumed the tech would test my existing lines. He didn't. Instead, he brought a new line down from the pole. I asked why he was bringing in a new line before testing the old, and he just shook his head and said the TCI equipment was garbage, and wasn't worth the time to test. Still, despite this tech's conscientiousness, AT&T had problems.

Ahhaha, when self-install becomes the norm and 85% of new subs choose this route, will ATHM be able to cut a better deal with its partners on its share of the monthly fee. At present ATHM gets approximately 35% of the monthly $40 fee. ATHM will of course benefit from the increased subscriber base but it appears to me the real beneficiaries of self-install are the cable companies who will save on reduced installation costs.
