Robert G. Harrell: For me, your posts are among the most interesting on SI. I read every one. You possibly don't have a clue why. It's not about MRVC or stock picking or basketball. For me, your posts get me to wonder about the big questions - how much should I margin (if any), how much money is enough, as the portfolio value becomes a number that grows larger and larger- what is the purpose of investing- why does it sometimes seem for me to be so difficult to take money out of a portfolio, how do I reconcile having large stock market gains and losses (volatility) at the same time that I consider/reconsider/and ponder some more about spending just $125 for a simple consumer item.

Yes, your posts get me to consider my relationship with money. This is good.

using margin w/MRVC

since you and your son are at least somewhat considering william & mary, allow me to suggest a visit to UVa...

the hoops team is much better, jefferson's neo-colonial creation is unparalleled in beauty and mystery except perhaps by princeton's gothic flavor...though i and my family found UVa to be much more beautiful...

pete gillen(sp?) is an amzing persona and coach having arrived last year after incredible success with Xavier...

and fianlly, from personal experience i can promise you that your son will have much more fun at UVa...

now if stanford shows interest and offers a free ride, you, a stanford alum, will have no choice but to propel your son there(g)...

fwiw, my final 2 choices after acceptance were stanford and UVa, and after visiting both schools the decision became clear that virginia was for me...here's to hoping that your son finds what is perfect for him...

allow me to suggest that you and your son initiate contact with the legendary coach, Pete Newelll...he has a big-man's camp that is unequaled in attention and focus...newell has strong ties to stanford

cheers,

steve
