A very useful look at sebl, Mike, but the comment that caught my attention was,

ERRATA

In my front office report I inaccurately reported the value of Siebel's convertible debt. It's $300 million, not $300,000. I did properly express the debt as a percentage of equity, at 34%.

How do we submit it for cool post? No matter, in my mind it is cool, collected and right on the money.

A couple items of business to take care of:

Tekboy - just go fishing for ten years and tell the Mrs. all is fine because you own Siebel. Try worms this time of year...

Mike - put down your compositional pen for the moment to allow the trombones and tubas to empty their spit valves. Now go and post your Front Office game over on the Fool gorilla board as well as the Siebel board. (Maybe that will cool Brad Hessel and his jets about how great those little mid-tier stocks he believes in so much (IACT & ONXS) are that he touts on the Siebel board every single day when compared to this new tornado in the mid-tier market and Siebel's position in it.) I saw a post where even he was shocked at the growth Siebel had in 'his' space. I can't wait for the next quarter's numbers....

re: Front Office Game - Very informative write up, Mike. Here are a few bits of news from the July 17 Information Week:

- Cisco and Oracle have formed a CRM-Networking Alliance with the goal of allowing Oracle's CRM systems to smoothly use Cisco's network routing and telephony features.

- IBM, which stopped offering its own ERP, CRM and supply-chain software, has continued to develop alliances with software companies. It has teamed up with more than 20 since March including Siebel, I2 and Ariba. They plan to double the number of partners by year end.

- As part of IBM's partnership with Siebel they plan to have Siebel software available by year end for the IBM AS/400. The AS/400 is currently utilized by 200,000 (mostly midsized?) companies.

Hi Mike.

Man, I wish I was half as thorough as you are with your analysis. I am still learning the ropes of the Gorilla Game (only about a third of the way through the book). Some deep and thought provoking material there that I hope will make me a better (wiser?) investor.

Mike, I appreciate the time you take to bring us quarterly updates on this "game". There are a couple of points I would like to ask you to clarify.

1. Consistently, one-half of total revenues come from existing customers

2. All of that being the case, mid-market licensing increased from $24 million in Q1 (12.5% of $193 million) to $60 million (25% of $242 million.)



Did you mean to say that 50% of the revenue growth comes from existing customers? If that is the case, and revenue increased $49 million (242-193) and mid market sales increased 36 million, (60-24), then sales to the large cap companies increased 13 million or only about 7.7%

OR

Is there a substantial portion of SEBL's existing business that is "non recurring" other than the maintenance fees? Hence it is possible for 50% of the total revenue to come from existing customers as they expand the number of licensed products?


Thanks again for your diligence on updating the CRM game. I have been very please to be playing the Gorilla in this space with real money.

Mike,

Thanks for your comprehensive SEBL post. The identification of the mid-market as a second accelerator pedal is interesting. The accelerated growth rate in the quarter surprised me and you identified the driver.

I believe Saleslogic and IACT are now merged entities.
