Gus, things like the article in post 10706 here, and Sun's great quarter keep me a disbeliever in the storage becoming center of IT theory.

Either way, CPU or storage, I'm OK, but I think that theory is overhyped. Do you have any total $$ spent on PCs and servers vs. storage right now?

Tony

Dear Gus: Well, so you know, I really appreciate your technical analysis and the excellent posts you make. And you and I are both Champions of EMC so we really dont have a lot to quibble about.
As to SUNW, yes somewhere in the CC what you posted was said, but in the early part of the call Mike R. listed each competitor and he CLEARLY said that ONLY EMC and SUNW increased market share, although EMC increased it MORE than SUNW. There mere fact that EMC talks of SUNW as a competitor (in that same section I believe he said something to the effect SUNW was their ONLY competitor) supports my comment.
Now, as to those charts you keep posting, where we disagree is that I look at the whole picture as a SYSTEM for a solution to a problem. If it turns out less servers and more storage devices are the solution then IMHO that is what SUNW will supply. EMC for at least the foreseeable future will ALWAYS command the HIGH ROAD, IMHO, the Dells and others will likely command the LOW ROAD, and the middle ground will be fought over between SUNW and EMC most likely with possibly CPQ in the fray.
