The last three posts seem in conflict but maybe not. Maybe unexpected demand for servers in the first calendar quarter depleted inventories of Intel and AMD processors. Enterprise drives actually increased in price during that quarter. IBM problems in the second calendar quarter may have overburdened supply of Quantum enterprise drives.

Processors will supply servers before PC's because server components are higher margined. This may have caused a shortage in processors for PC's causing shipments short of meeting demand. If this theory is correct, demand for desktop drives will be slowed dependent on the supply of processors. Demand for enterprise drives will remain strong dependent on demand for servers.

In other words, maybe we have drive shortages in the enterprise market and we are facing drive oversupply in the desktop market.

Just a theory.

Mark
