Hi Bud, Nope, the red mist stayed out of my eyes and I saw nothing but the cool, green bonnet of the Jag before me. The car ran pretty well all weekend. The feature race on Sunday was 8 laps long, but my brakes were only willing to be content for 6 laps! I finished the race, but at a rather slow pace for the last couple of times around. Just about had enough brakes to get back to the paddock.

After a couple of years off it was a true pleasure to get the Old Kitty out on the track in earnest again. Running down through the trees from the "Kink" to "Canada Corner" with the twin-cam six at 5500 RPM in top gear and full throttle gets the smile on my face and the adrenalin pumping. I'll have some photos included in this week's newsletter. Unfortunately no pics from the cockpit at speed - too busy to point and shoot!

I managed to get a Third Place in class (that means all the other cars in my class broke!). I had a great start and passed about 5 or 6 cars before Turn One. I managed to hang on to that improved position for 4 or 5 laps until my friend Jim from Louisville (green and tan Austin Healey 3000) took back his spot in front of me as my brakes got tired. I then tried to stay with him as we both started to catch up with another long time race buddy, Edgar, in his 1959 XK150 Jaguar Coupe. We both had him in our sights, but then then I had to back off. Jim and Edgar traded positions for the next couple of laps and Edgar prevailed over Jim. We gave him an official Leaping Cats Racing Tee Shirt for his efforts, and Jim was appreciative of at least whipping me!!!

Meanwhile, at the front of the pack David Hinton and a guy by the name of Walton from Texas were battling it out for 1st and 2nd. He and David exchanged leads a couple of times but Mr. Walton's Ferrari prevailed. David got 2nd overall and first in class. He also turned a personal best lap time of 2:38 for the four mile track. This makes my 3:10 look pretty lame!

Being about the same age as my car, I can appreciate how it must feel after someone thrashes it around! I'm stiff, sore and tired!!! 110 Octane race gas is now up to $4.75/gal at the track. It smells so good compared to gas station pump gas it's like the difference between bottom shelf swill and 12 year old oak-aged whiskey! Between the smells of high octane gas, hot brakes and race tires, it's quite the olfactory experience! Highly addictive!!

Track food was great. Sweet corn lived up to its name. Lots of Bratwurst being grilled up all day. To celebrate our weekend at the track, 18 of us had a great dinner at "Jim and Linda's" on the east shore of Lake Winnebago last night. Beautiful sunset.

I drove my race car both to and from the race track - something of a novelty these days. 50 years ago when racing at Elkhart Lake started it was the norm. Nice to have it still running at the end of the weekend to drive home!!!

Watch for the Brian Redman International Challenge on "Speedvision" sometime soon. They should have a report on their website soon at:
