Very interesting battle shaping up. I could sell from either side. ORCL has the best sales force, IMO. I can see why they made the switch to their own products, knowing Larry's love of a battle, and the size of the market they are after.

I would hesitate to call an outcome on this one!

That was a fascinating article! Thanks!

For me there were two sentences to highlight in color -- the one that sez IBM's database marketshare is within 1 point of Oracles, and this one: "IBM's database runs on around 20 percent of Siebel's customer base, up from just 1 percent about two years ago."

That last fact is Value Chain 301, not 101. That means IBM needs Siebel. I love it!

Everything else in the article seems to be well balanced and consistent with everything I read about the competive space.

Putting on my nit-picking hat, the one thing I object to is phraseology (that I see a lot) about Oracle "attacking" Siebel. It's one thing to try and win some customers here and there, which Oracle will certainly be successful at, especially with customers already using their database product. It's quite a lot different image I get when a company is attacking another one. Larry Ellison might think he is attacking Siebel, but in the CRM space that's pretty much like David forgetting to gather up his stones before attacking Goliath.

Just my opinion.
