Keith, thanks for the instructive comments! Actually, I made real purchases of IO and DV today.

What I mean by "for no apparent good reason" in terms of a particular day's pricing is the situation where the price of a stock is nudged simply because someone with lots of shares wants to get out, or someone wants to buy lots of shares and doesn't particularly care about the price.

Yes, "Top Fishing" can be a great strategy too. I did that last week. You're right, I'm experimenting, after years of essentially trading market indices via mutual funds and later SPY. I like to do real buys and sells when I experiment, though, because then I face the reality of the spread, etc.

By "Mini-AIM" I really meant just buying low. But, of course, my "low" for this experiment is merely the low for the past few days.
