HPNA stands for Home Phoneline Network Alliance, right?

Yes, you are correct. Broadcom is the dominant producer of these chips, pretty much 100% marketshare, and is pushing the standards aggressively forward. They're targeting 100Mbps HPNA for later this year.

Does Bluetooth or IRDA (infrared) and other wireless protocols have a place in this architecture?

I'm not sure that Bluetooth or IRDA would fit the bill, not enough range or speed. I would guess (and I'm just guessing) that IEEE 802.11b would be the only wireless protocol put to this type of use. However, if Bluetooth does live up to all its hype, I'm sure it could be a very complementary technology to HPNA-enabled devices.
