"Just for informational purposes, most of Gemstar's IPG patents were attained through the acquisition of StarSight."

Abukhari- That's interesting. I believe StarSight is used by GTE Americast and it's, in a word, terrible. Slow, cumbersome, and plain as can be. I thought for sure the reason being was due to Gemstar patents. But if Gemstar owns them, I don't get it? Why would GTE roll with Starsight when it's so ancient?

Is IPG more complicated than I thought and for GTE to use the full functions of Gemstar features....oh I think I already get it. I bet you StarSight is very inexpensive because Gemstar must not charge the MSO much to use it. Thanks. -MikeM(From Florida)

PS lml- Thanks for the details about Gemstar's CEO. That helps explain a lot about the company.

Thanks for this info, Ali.

I am not that familiar with StarSight as I don't use the service. Could you tell us what is unique about it and why you think GMST felt a need to acquire it? What does IPG stand for? What other information can you share with us? This area seems to be a focus of yours.

TIA.
