Intel Investors - Here is the second article. It has to do with security and authentication of medical documents (radiology, in this case) that need to be transferred "at Internet speed".

And yes, Intel is at the center of this developing segment of the Internet Economy.

Riptide First Radiology Solution Provider to Utilize Intel(R) Internet Authentication Services

NEW ORLEANS, July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Riptide Technologies, Inc., an e-health software company, today announced plans to bring advanced Internet security to hospital radiology departments and imaging centers in an agreement with Intel® Internet Authentication Services (IAS).

Under the terms of the agreement, Riptide and Intel IAS will jointly integrate Intel's real-time physician identity authentication services into Riptide Technologies' Internet solution for radiology, the Advanced Radiology Image and Information System, ARIIS. The agreement makes Riptide the first solution for radiology protected by Intel Internet Authentication Services, which utilizes Internet IDs issued to physicians by the American Medical Association. Hospitals, imaging centers, and radiology groups will now be able to use the Internet to improve patient care by speeding communications with their referring physicians while protecting the confidentiality of patient medical information.

``We see this agreement with Intel IAS as a key building block in bringing the highest value to our customers,'' said Gene Thomas, CEO of Riptide. ``With the integration of Intel's managed authentication services into our product, we continue to deliver best of breed solutions to customers. We are pleased to be working with Intel to offer a more secure environment for our customers.''

Dr. Richard Ferrans, Riptide's President and Co-Founder added, ``Our agreement with Intel IAS will help revolutionize the relationship between radiologists and referring physicians. A doctor will be able to read a radiology report and access the images within seconds of that study and report being completed, compared to the national average of eighteen hours for paper and film based systems. This means much better care for the patients. We can do this more safely via the Internet because Intel IAS has authenticated the user at each end of an Internet connection before sensitive patient information is accessed, discussed, or exchanged. Security is our paramount concern, and that is why we chose Intel IAS.''

``Intel is pleased to provide Riptide Technologies with real-time authentication services to enable trusted online radiology communications in support of Riptide's real time system,'' said Mariah Scott, general manager, Intel Internet Authentication Services. ``We believe that bringing trust to online health communications and transactions is key to bringing the power of the Internet to the health care industry.''

Intel IAS provides an Internet ID system for the health care industry that allows health care professionals and patients to confirm their identify in order to participate in confidential online health communications and transactions. The American Medical Association has joined with Intel to issue Internet IDs to physicians. Internet IDs enable real-time identity authentication with portable accessibility, privacy protection, and usage reporting all within a managed, trusted network.
