I do do public stonings however, however, I need to be convinced that a major crime has been committed

Not a major crime in this instance. Besides, "pointing out" someone's lack of accuracy in placing specific URL's after making the statement made, is far from stoning.

This, in view of the fact that our hero has accused others (as usual without proof or substance), of having made a"sexist post", a few others of being "Gore Gals", and other collection of weird statements (mostly inaccurate, or off the wall), without logic and so on. Oh and I should not forget... of trying to "preach on me" the gospel --a practice I do not appreciate.

Anyway, not important really, but admittedly, now they make me laugh. But not a public stoning.

BTW....

You may just have found the reason and motivation for circumcision with your statement:

(God was actually going to kill Moses because his son was not circumcised????! What a strict Godparent!).

If that was so... and knowing the religious fans, the minute they read that, history was set. EVERYONE would start cutting off the tip of their children's willy.

EUREKA !! I have no idea how that would have caused to spread to other religions.

As I think about it... how wicked of the damned adults to start torturing the little ones... and worse, how surprising that not until now a serious resistance is now being mounted against this little piece of human sacrifice... as usual.... "in the name of the gods"

Amazing!

Solon, I have been reading all the posts about circumcision with some interest. I did not know before that circumcision predated the Bible, so I have learned something from the discussion. That makes me wonder, though, if not a directive from God, where such a practice would come from. Yeah, it could have been some form of sacrifice or some tribal identification. But I'm trying to picture how it might have come to pass. (I did manage to slip a "come to pass" into my post out of respect for your style. That exhausts my knowledge of the language of the Bible.)

I'm picturing some ancient guys sitting around a campfire chewing on a hallucinogenic root or, perhaps, prostrate in awe of their first eclipse. And what happens? One guy says to another guy, "hey, lets all cut off our foreskins" so that we can...? Huh??

I realize that I don't have the physical equipment, or the perspective, to analyze this as well as others. Can anyone conjure up a scenario that would result in anyone taking a knife (or a sharpened stone, given the time frame) to that particular part of the body for the first time? If tribal marking was the motivation, face paint or pierced ears or tattoos are much more obvious. If the motive was sacrifice, killing a goat seems like it could have happened naturally. But taking a knife to one's private parts? I can't imagine a way to make that leap.
