I rescue spiders, too, unless they are small and then I ignore them. I also rescue earthworms that wind up on the sidewalk after a heavy rain. But I eat meat. I am probably not a completely rational being.

<<Alas, sterile eggs and hormonally driven milk from "Penal colonies for chickens and cows" also adorn my plate. It gives me great pause. >>

You ever contemplate what would happen to the chickens and milk cows if nobody used their products? No, they wouldn't have condos and live in the city as pets.

>>>If I eat of an animal or use products from it, I recognize its sacrifice is great.<<<

. Argentine ants (our local pest) are not native.

Ah... are you in southern California? The little bastards are everywhere. And now fire ants have joined the party. And "Africanized" bees... what a zoo.

A thing to keep in mind about Argentine ants.
They are the sworn enemy of the termite. I let'm be unless they stage a persistent mass raid into the kitchen. Usually they just patrol the house's perimeter. I'm hoping that they are keeping termites from happening.
<sigh>
Gonna have to pony up for an inspection someday soon.
