Hi richard suckla; EDO is more expensive than SDRAM or DDR. This is because EDO is now a boutique (i.e. rare and unusual) memory, just like RDRAM is.

There was a time when EDO was cheaper, and at that time the standard memory was EDO. In order to get customers to convert to SDRAM, the memory makers had to reduce prices to non SDRAM pricing. Samsung, in particular, did this with the lowest speed grade SDRAM.

I made a rather complete history of the tranfer on this thread, giving links and details. (I'll put the link here if I can find it in 15 minutes.)

Now that I have answered two questions from you, how's about you answering one from me:

What news would it take to shake those RMBS shares out of your hands (at the current price)? Benchmarks showing DDR systems running considerably faster for DDR P4 vs RDRAM P4? Actual system sales of considerable DDR systems? Dataquest projecting RDRAM to remain a boutique memory?
