What?!? Microsoft will take royalties?!? I thought it should run Windows-based games...

It's been said from day one that X-Box will not play PC games. The console gaming experience is very different from the PC gaming experience. Ask any 12 year old :).

If X-box wants to get market from Windows machines, they misunderstood something with royalties. If they just target Sony Playstation

X-Box doesn't target Windows machines.

The Xbox is not a computer, and won't play computer games. It falls into the console category, like the Nintendo64, Sony Playstation, and Sega Dreamcast. Developers pay for liscences to make games for the system. A big difference between the console and PC industry is that while computer makers make money from hardware, console manufacturers make no money from selling the actual system (in fact, Sony song its Playstation2 in Japan at a loss); all their money comes from software royalties and profits for first party games (games that are developed in house). However, Xbox architecture is similar in many ways to that of PCs; hence ports of PC games to the Xbox platform will be very easy and take minimal time.

In contrast to what many internet users think, the PC games industry pales compared to console game sales. While the best console games sell millions (Goldeneye has sold around 10 million worldwide, and continues to sell well), the best PC games sell far less (one exception is the recently released Diablo2), their sales quickly run out of steam, and pirating is much more prevalent.

--The most popular game today is partly built on free software (Counter-Strike). --

Counterstrike doesn't measure up to Combat Mission.
