Z,
Well, I'm sure Seagate wants to start it's private life with lean inventory-- sweep the closets clean of end-of-life drives. Can't blame 'em. HDD seemed to have reasonable inventory levels and Maxtor seemed to be quite well managed. Such evaluations are not my strength, however.

One to keep on file (adjusting for typical Microsoft "release date drift"):
<<``We want to see a wave of upgrades when we ship Windows 2000 Personal,'' Gates said, referring to Whistler.>>

<<Wouldn't surprise me to see them tremporarily damage the goods they're trying to b uy on the cheap.>>

Trouble is any such damage is dwarfed by the damage VRTS is currently inflicting on a daily basis. Its developed one of the ugliest looking charts I've seen....2 double tops and headed straight for a drop through the 200 day ma!

SL could walk himself into the interesting retrospective situation where it would have been a lot better for SEG to have dumped VRTS and taken the tax hit than fiddle this self-serving private tune while the floor fell out from under. Dicey dicey dicey :o)

Best .... Tom
