Here is a weekend report on disk drive pricing from a sample of retail distributor drives. The drives include 394 samples from 6 different distributors.

The average sample of desktop disk drive prices decreased slightly last week.

Weekly average price change (weekly rate):
Weighted desktop --- down 0.7%
Less than 11gb --- down 0.8%
11gb to 21gb --- down 1.0%
Greater than 21gb --- down 0.5%
Enterprise --- down 0.1%

Current Quarter price change (monthly rate):
Weighted desktop --- down 2.3%
Less than 11gb --- down 2.3%
11gb to 21gb --- down 2.9%
Greater than 21gb --- down 1.6%
Enterprise --- down 1.4%

2nd Calendar Quarter price change (monthly rate):
Weighted desktop --- down 3.0%
Less than 11gb --- down 3.7%
11gb to 21gb --- down 2.8%
Greater than 21gb --- down 2.6%
Enterprise --- down 1.7%

1st Calendar Quarter price change (monthly rate):
Weighted desktop --- down 1.5%
Less than 11gb --- down 1.1%
11gb to 21gb --- down 1.3%
Greater than 21gb --- down 2.2%
Enterprise --- up 0.1%

The disk drive conference calls all expressed aggressive pricing in the desktop market last quarter because of component shortages in the PC market. Yet they beat their estimates. Two of the manufacturers claim improving markets this quarter but aggressive pricing early as a carryover of the last quarter shortages.

Regards,
Mark

Tom, I live in Australia now and listen to the Asian version of CNBC. The other day, they mentioned there was a financial problem with the suspension maker KRP. I can't say I remember the way the story was structured as it passed through my head while I was reading something else.

It registered though as perhaps KRP would be another company facing bankruptcy, which would seem to be good for the competition, Htch. Perhaps it would be bad for Innovex as they seem to have partnered on some projects. Now they will be more forced the work with their competition Hutchinson and NHK.

I could have gotten the story wrong though. Has anyone else heard about problems in the suspension supply chain?

Regards,

Mark
