I agree that is one element and Gore is at a disadvantage. But Bush's achilles heel is the extremist right, and he knows it. So why in the world would he pick Cheney? Did anybody see Matt Lauer take apart Cheney on the Today show? You walked away feeling like Cheney is more pro-gun than the NRA, because he voted against a ban on plastic guns which can get through airline metal-detectors, that even the NRA supported. However you feel about guns (and I do not consider guns to be my #1 issue) this is not the year to be extremely pro-gun. Bush should have picked a moderate. Why he did not, I have no idea.
