With MSFT in the DJIA, of course it will affect that average, which is widely perceived to represent "the market." And lemmings who base their moves on movement of the Dow amplify its influence. But if MSFT were such a good proxy for "the market" how could "the market" be up as much as it is over the past couple of years with MSFT essentially flat?
