To awestruck cavemen everything was "just there." Hopefully over the past 2 million years the human race has been able to progress in its understanding of the universe to a much higher degree than you allude to... yechhhh!

Some humans accept things as they are -- others really lead the human race to the future and change things to match their vision.

Let's continue your water analogy: yes, there are those who will accept the water as "just there" and play in it, drink of it and drown in it -- they are useless...

Then there are those that will harness the water and redirect its mindless energy to their will and thus in the process turn night to day. They are the ones who (through their thought and actions) keep you alive despite yourself.

If it wasn't for men and women like them, you would still be living in a cave and die of old age at 30 (if not had for dinner by a wild animal long before you ever had the chance to reach the old 'geezer' age of 30).
