Asia? Asia?

My first lesson in reality that was.. A relentless beating I took for 2 weeks straight.. would sleep with my laptop displaying the futures/world markets each night, and just like clockwork- I would wake up to limit down futures and in 2 weeks managed to lose about 3/4 of my savings..

in retro it was the event that taught me how to trade.. Not to mention go short for balance in my trading.. :)

I suppose given what has happened in the last few trading days, and the failed 'big summer rally', I guess our first clue should have been all the selloffs across the board after quarterly earnings were reported..

AMD up a point today by the way.. whats THAT all about? AMAT virtually unchanged.. Guess the shorts had to cover eventually, no? God I hate semis..

...back in my wild days I had all my chips and than some in AMD at 15-15 1/2.. sold it all for a lose... coulda shoulda woulda

Zeev, Re: CAT

I agree that they could have some problems if we have a global recession, but the inventory of construction products that hit the secondary market after the Asian debacle has been absorbed. What CAT has going for it is they are one of if not the largest producers of power generation equipment and this business is going gang busters. Companies that are concerned about electrical brown-outs ect. are installing local generation systems. I have been watching the stock but am waiting for a recession price entry.

Joan

ZEEV:

I am a contrarian value investor. Over the years I have done very well buying beaten down high quality world class companies that I KNOW will come back in time. CAT and PG meet my standards. Very little downside risk at current depressed prices and great upside potential if one is patient.

I doubt these two stocks will do much on the upside anytime soon. But I expect them to be much higher than they are now a year or two down the road.

Hey, BS is even cheaper when compared to book, but I would not touch it.

Hey Zeev, how about XRX - dividend yield about 5.4%. Of course they have a lot of problems, but I think they will turn themselves around - eventually. Could they be another Wang?
