Scared,

I don't think SanDisk's success has anything to do with Napster's eventual outcome in the court proceedings. Either way MP3 will continue as a compression standard. A new means of exchange will replace Napster and it will be much harder to eradicate.

SanDisk designed MMC (an unprotected storage medium) to be forward compatible with SDMC (a protected storage medium). The SDMC slot is backwards compatible with MMC. Right now MMC is in high demand. If the trend is in favor of a copyright protected solution there will be a shift to SDMC. Right now the public has not been accepting of complex protection schemes. For this reason MMC will continue to thrive, and so will MP3. Also, there will always be demand for MP3 as many people (like myself) use it legitimately to digitally compress music from CD's I already own.

IMHO, the RIAA should be acquiring Napster, not attempting to shut it down.
