I really don't want to hear that. I was quite comforted by the idea Intel will make .13u Coppermines...
1. The die is cheap.
2. The Mhz ain't too bad, nice mid speed chip.
3. Great cache design, benchmarks well on right benchmarks,
4. Makes a nice hedge in case RAMBUS drags down Willy for a while. Which it will.
5. Like I've said...probably kills Timna...a good thing.
6. Cuts costs on X-box chips

Doesn't sound like there is much of a question whether or not Intel takes some Coppermines to .13u...
DOn't you think this is a good idea. Sure in a perfect Willy world they wouldn't have to maybe but RAMBUS flaws Willy in a manner where taking Coppermine to .13u isn't such a bad idea?

Jim

PS..try to be civil.

I don't have a problem with any of this Logic. It follows just fine, with my previous contention that intel will use an established product, to qualify a new process. Just as they should do. You did forget a couple of reasons they should do it though:

7. Smaller die, means more die per wafer, which means higher volume.
8. Smaller die, if history repeats itself would most likely mean lower power requirements.

The part of that EBN story that I DO have a problem with, is the conclusion, that intel is doing this due to problems with Will-Am-Ette.

The information they are reporting, is "According To Industry Observers". Not "Sources Close To The Situation" or even "Well Informed Sources"..... No, they say, "Industry Observers".

So they are reporting as fact...., what someone else says.... they observed. In legal circles, they have a term for that.....

Heresay.

You missed the entire point of Lewinsky-Dan's baloney assertions.

As for Intel putting the Coppermine on a 0.13 micron process, there was never any doubt that would be done. Intel ALWAYS moves their high volume CPUs to the next generation process - as they ramp up new designs on that process.
