DSL stocks IMO are dead money for at least another year.

There are too many issues for these companies these days trying to install DSL lines, working with the Baby Bells and other CLECs, etc. How many here have tried to get a DSL line installed - I can tell you from personal experience it is pure hell. And I am not alone, if you check out www.dslreports.com you'll see that based on my estimate, over 75% of DSL installs have significant issues.

It is going to take more time, to resolve these issues. From CLEC cooperation, to better coordination between Covad, Northpoint, et al and the CLECs and ISPs, to better communication from the ISPS, to more qualified installers, to self insatll kits and line sharing, etc.

Add to that the fact that while you hear stats that x% of the country is within reach of DSL - thats not necessarily accurate. All it means is someone may have equipment at a CO. but the phone company over the years has installed Bridge taps, DLCs, etc as a cheaper way of extending POTS. All thsi gets in the way of a clean DSL install, and in some case prevents it entirely.

Until these issues are resolved - DSL stocks are dead money. I think we are at least a year away, if that.

BTW - Julie - don't cancel your cable service until you have your DSL service up and running for at least a month

PS - been waiting for DSL since December here - dealt with 4 companies, did TONS of research at dslreports - have my fingers crossed it will be finally installed tomorrow - but we will see.

but all of these 4 ISPs,along with their DSL partners (northpoint for 3, Covad for 1) have spent time and money on my install without getting a single dime back from me because they haven't set me up yet. And I am not alone - read DSL reports before investing in DSL companies - it will open your eyes.
